September 10, 2012 - Business Wire Press Release
Gazzang today announced that its zNcrypt™ solution is now certified on CDH4 (Cloudera’s Distribution Including Apache Hadoop Version 4), the standard platform for Hadoop in the enterprise. Gazzang zNcrypt protects data within CDH by transparently encrypting and securing information written to disk, providing customers with enterprise-class big data security. zNcrypt is the only encryption and key management solution certified on CDH4.
CDH is the world’s most widely deployed distribution of Apache Hadoop in commercial and non-commercial environments. Today, more than half of the Fortune 50 run open source Apache Hadoop based on Cloudera. With tens of thousands of nodes in production, Cloudera has established itself as the category leader that is setting the standard for Apache Hadoop in the enterprise. CDH4 is a 100-percent open source distribution that combines Apache Hadoop with other open source applications within the Hadoop stack to deliver advanced, enterprise-grade features.
“Cloudera is helping enterprises realize the promise of big data, and is changing the way organizations – from financial services to healthcare to social media – solve problems and meet their business goals,” said Michael Harper, vice president of worldwide sales and alliances at Gazzang. “Together, we are giving organizations peace of mind that the data powering their search queries and analytics is secure, confidential, available and high-performing.”
The zNcrypt solution includes robust key management and process-based access controls that meet compliance regulations and allow users to store their cryptographic keys separate from the encrypted data. Organizations running zNcrypt on CDH do not have to modify their databases or applications, and tests indicate minimal, if any, performance impact during the encryption and decryption process.
Gazzang is now a member of the Cloudera Certified Technology program, which simplifies the purchase decision and implementation for Apache Hadoop technology buyers by packaging the most optimal, proven cluster components along with software applications to extract the most value from their data. Clusters that leverage CDH4 alongside Cloudera Certified Technologies such as Gazzang zNcrypt operate with reduced risk and lower total cost of ownership. Cloudera Certified Technologies have been tested and validated to use supported APIs and to comply with Cloudera development guidelines for integration with Apache Hadoop.
“Enterprise-class Hadoop clusters require enterprise-class security. Data-at-rest encryption and key management from Gazzang enable Cloudera customers to embrace the potential of big data while maximizing data security,” said Tim Stevens, vice president of business and corporate development at Cloudera. "We're pleased to partner with Gazzang to enable Cloudera customers to take advantage of these important capabilities."
